 Religious motifs run through many of Angie Olami's Collections. Jewish stars, chamsas, and crosses are all available in sterling silver and 14 karat gold. Angie Olami offers a wide offering of beautifully handcrafted traditional religious icons with Ancient Roman Glass from Israel. In addition to a large selection of original but more typical Judaica and religious jewelry designs, Angie Olami has allowed Biblical passages and spiritual literature and motifs to run through many of her collections -- such as Images from Galilee and The Paradiso Collection -- offering a wider and more whimsical representation of religious imagery.  The round pin (see photo) is based on a Jewish Persian amulet from the 19th Century (the original can be found in the Hechal Shlomo Wolfson Museum in Jerusalem). In the middle of the Jewish star, itself a protective amulet ever since King David wore it on his shield, is the name Shaddai, which is a Hebrew name for g-d that focuses on g-d's majesty. The mystical forty- two letter name of g-d is carved out of silver around the periphery, and the names of protective angels are inscribed in the corners of the star. The oval pin captures the landing of Noah's Arc, the dove of peace harkening a new era of peace, and the seven stones representing in order (remember ROY G BIV?) the seven colors of the rainbow, g-d's sign that he/she would destroy the world no more. There are designs inspired by everything from the Tree of Knowledge to cathedral windows, to the Jewish holiday of Sukkot (the necklace with carnelian features a lulav and etrog) to the beautiful Sabbath morning prayer etched into the pin with the globe on it that sings out, "The world has as its foundation three things: Torah, work, and acts of lovingkindness (Gimilut Hasadim).  -Back to Jewelry Collections |
